Introduction

  • The department is dedicated to provide the evidence based perioperative anesthesia care to the Paediatric and Neonatal age group.
  • To develop an internationally recognised State of the Art centre for the delivery of scientific, safe and compassionate anaesthesia, pain management, and critical care services to children.
  • To contribute to the advancement of the field of anaesthesia especially paediatric anaesthesia, pain and critical care by engaging in high quality teaching and training not only to doctors but to nurses and paramedics as well.
  • To lead innovative and meaningful research by fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and excellence.


Infrastructure Available

  • State of art 9 Modular OTs
  • Airway Devices- Videolaryngoscopes, Fiberoptic Bronchoscope etc
  • Blood Fluid Warmers, Air warmers for proper temp regulation
  • Ultrasound and PNS- for regional anaesthesia
  • Advanced Monitoring- NIRS, BIS, NMT

Patient Services

  • OPD- Pre Anaesthetic Checkup Clinic
  • Services-Multimodal Anaesthesia services for Routine and emergency surgeries in neonates and paediatric patients in the department of CTVS, Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastic Surgery
  • Non-operating room anaesthesia in neonates and paediatric patients undergoing CT, gastrointestinal procedures, procedures done in cardiac catheterization lab

1. 2017: RAPACON 2017 (UPMCI accreditation) a Conference on Recent Advances in Paediatric Anaesthesiology, 4th February 2017.


2. 2017 - 1st Workshop on Basic Life Support and Basic Airway Skills' held on 15th September 2017.


3. 2018: CME and workshop on World Anaesthesia Day 2018, 16th October 2018.


4. 2019:  International CME and Workshop on ‘Ultrasound Guided Nerve Blocks in Paediatrics” on World anaesthesia day, 16th October 2019.


5. 2020: CME on World Anaesthesia Day, 16th October 2020


6. 2021: CME on WAD, 16th October 2021


7. 2022: ISA National sponsored CME, themed "Recent advances in Paediatric anaesthesia organized jointly by Dept. of Paediatric Anaesthesia, PGICH and ISA Noida, GB Nagar Branch held on 8th May 2022, at PGICH; 200 Faculty and Delegates.


8. 2022: Interdepartmental quiz, titled "Beyond the Realm of Insensibility' on World Health Day, 7th April 2022.


9. 2022: Public Awareness programme on the occasion of World Anaesthesia Day, 16th October 2022.


10. 2023: Neonatal ventilation workshop organized by Dept. of Paediatric Anaesthesia, PGICH under aegis of NAS (Neonatal Anaesthesia Society)


11. 2023: CME on World Anaesthesia Day, 16th October 2023


12. 2024: IAPA 2024 (15th Annual National Conference of Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists) under the aegis of IAPA from 09-11 Feb 2024. Eminent faculty from all over the world shared their insights and experiences in the nuances of practicing safe paediatric anaesthesia.

  1. DM Paediatric and Neonatal Anaesthesia program affiliated to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee University, Lucknow under NMC – 2026, Sanctioned 2 seats, 3-year course
  2. IAPA (Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists) Affiliated Fellowship in Paediatric anaesthesia, started in 2020, 1yr duration, 2 seats per year.
  3. Bachelor of OT Technology Course - Started in 2024, 20 seats, 3 yrs duration

Future Plans

  • To cater to paediatric patients of all age groups ranging from the smallest newborn (including preterm) with a life threatening condition to the adolescent 9upto 18 years) with any of the numerous childhood ailments.
  • To provide range of clinical services including
    • Perioperative care and surgical intensive care for general as well as specialized surgeries
    • Sedation services for procedures inside as well as outside the OR
    • Pain management including acute pain service for postoperative patients and management for chronic pain
  • To evolve customised protocol-based plans for anaesthesia as well as critical care in order to provide to our patients the most effective, appropriate and comprehensive care possible.
  • To develop training opportunities like postdoctoral courses for doctors and post diploma certificate courses for nurses.
  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course reinforces the systematic approach to Paediatric assessment, basic life support, treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. We aim to train all physicians, nurses, paramedics and others in the same.
